Patterson, PC congratulates our client Pathfinder Oil & Gas on this long-awaited victory!

On May 24th, 2019, the Texas Supreme Court unanimously reversed the court of appeals and upheld a December 2013 jury verdict in favor of Pathfinder Oil & Gas. Great Western sued Pathfinder to declare their contract void. Pathfinder countersued, claiming that Great Western was simply trying to avoid paying Pathfinder for its 25% interest in oil and gas leases known as the Linker Field.

After a two-week trial, the jury returned after less than three hours of deliberation with a verdict in Pathfinder’s favor. The jury awarded all requested damages to Pathfinder, including past damages, interest, and attorney fees, amounting to more than $4,000,000, as well as, a 25% interest in all future income on the leases. The Jury denied all relief requested by Great Western.

The case wound its way through the appellate process for more than five years until Justice Guzman wrote the Texas Supreme Court’s unanimous decision confirming the jury’s verdict.

JUSTICE GUZMAN delivered the opinion of the Court
