In order to prove that your employee has embezzled funds, there must be four basic factors in your case. These factors are:
- A fiduciary relationship between yourself and the employee
- The employee must have acquired the property through the relationship
- The employee must have taken ownership of the property or transferred the property to someone else
- The employee’s actions were intentional
If those facts can be established, there is a good chance of holding the employee accountable for embezzlement.
Types Of Embezzlement
Embezzlement takes many forms. Some employees may take a significant sum of money or resources all at once, while other employees may steal small amounts of money over a long period of time. Embezzlement may involve fraudulent billing, records falsification, Ponzi schemes, payroll checks to nonexistent employees, and so on.
